El Gringo Viejo

As the saying goes, one should not judge a book by its cover, this being doubly true for screenplays based on prize winning books. The saying should also be applied to restaurants that adorn themselves with haughty names of historic books, places or people, however this can not be said of Vedado based restaurant, Gringo Viejo. The restaurant is named after famous Mexican author Carlos Fuentes’ groundbreaking novel, Gringo Viejo and attempts to capture all the charms, intrigue and poetry of the book itself. A combination of the restaurant’s central location, balmy evening atmosphere, decor, service and food quality ensures that the restaurant located on 21st St, No 454 between E and F, Vedado, lives up to its title.

The restaurant owes much of its credit and surprisingly fast emergence to well-known Cuban writer, art critic and film director Omar González. González worked carefully to design the interiors and recipes of the restaurant that pays subtle homage to the Gringo Viejo book and film.

From 12:00m to 11.00pm, Gringo Viejo offers lunch and dinner menu to its guests, composed of many well elaborated appetizers and main dishes of red and white meats and seafood.

Try smoked salmon with olives and Gouda or crabmeat in red sauce
